About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced in-home caregiver to support a 94-year-old woman living with dementia in a private home.
The successful candidate will be patient, attentive, and comfortable providing hands-on personal care, medication support, and meaningful companionship while respecting the client's dignity and daily routines.
The caregiver should be comfortable with and respectful of the lifestyle, traditions, preferences, and established ways of life of a 94-year-old Albertan woman.
The caregiver must understand the importance of routine and reassurance and adapt to changing daily needs while maintaining a calm, supportive presence.
Compensation
Wages starting at $20 per hour, based on experience, with accommodation and benefits as outlined below.
Hours of Work
Approximately seven hours per day of active care, structured around morning routines, meals, daytime activities, and bedtime. Scheduling is flexible within the daily routine.
A live-in arrangement is preferred, with a private furnished bedroom provided at no cost. Living in the employer's home is optional and is not a condition of employment. Any overnight duties will be agreed upon separately, recorded, and paid.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with morning and bedtime routines, including washing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
· Provide full assistance with bathing, dressing, continence care, and toileting.
· Assist with showers at least three times weekly, and more often as required.
· Ensure prescribed medications are taken and provide insulin injections as directed.
· Monitor the client's overall health, hydration, and well-being.
· Prepare nutritious meals and snacks and assist with eating as needed.
· Encourage safe mobility, light exercise, and fall prevention.
· Accompany the client to medical, physiotherapy, and social appointments.
· Perform light housekeeping and laundry and maintain a clean, safe living environment.
· Assist with grocery shopping and purchasing household supplies, in person or online.
· Provide companionship, conversation, reassurance, and emotional support.
Requirements
· Previous experience caring for seniors with dementia.
· Health Care Aide or caregiving training or certification is an asset.
· Demonstrated experience administering medications and insulin.
· Strong English-language and communication skills.
· Patience, empathy, reliability, and attentiveness.
· A valid driver's license is an asset.
Accommodation and Benefits
· Optional accommodation is available in the employer's home at no cost to the caregiver. Living in the home is not a condition of employment.
· A private, furnished bedroom and access to the kitchen, internet, and utilities are provided if the caregiver chooses the accommodation.
· Meals provided while on duty.
